This document by the US Environmental Protection Agency sets forth responsible recycling (“R2”) practices for use in accredited certification programs that assess electronics recyclers’ environmental, health and safety, and security practices.  In other words, the EPA layos out how Electronics Recycling companies should be judged if they want to be accredited "Responsible Recyclers" in order ot give consumers and businesses confidence in hiring them.  This is a voluntary program and not required by law.

This case study reviews a project in which the Stopwaste partnership helped Ghiardelli Chocolate company initiate a simple, rapid ROI producing internal project in which Cardboard boxes were replaced with reusable totes.  Benefits included:  $520,000 reduced packaging purchases a year, a 325% return on investment, a 1-2 year simple payback period and a $75,000 business waste prevention fund award.

This case study is one of four made possible through the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality's (DEQ) Pulp and Paper  ollution Prevention Program, or P5, a voluntary environmental initiative open to all pulp and paper companies in Michigan.  

Program objectives were developed by a partnership between DEQ and the Michigan Pulp and Paper Environmental Council (MPPEC) to lessen the industry's environmental impact.

A recycling Case Study describing how Bayer Healthcare, LLC reviewed their waste stream and made significant improvements in their business as a result.  ISO 14001 certification and participation in the Stop Waste Partnership resulted in over $500,000 reduction in the annual garbage removal bill, as well as the diversion of over 70% of waste as recycled materials.
